KATERPOESIE AT KATERSCHMAUS

4 Jan 26

A musical journey through the curious words and worlds created by Paul Scheerbart.

Paul Scheerbart was a Berlin poet, painter, inventor and architecture enthusiast who gained a small degree of fame through his diverse works at the end of the 19th century. His fantastical literature was among the first publications by Rowohlt Verlag, and his friends and admirers included Walter Benjamin and Erich Mühsam. Inspired by his excessive alcohol consumption, Scheerbart created an unusual body of work merging grotesque comedy, avant-gardism and utopian thinking.
Five actors bring Paul Scheerbart’s poetry collection ‘Katerpoesie’ (Cat Poetry) to life featuring harp (Astrid Köhler), accordion (Wiebke Acton), trombone (Uwe Neumann), saxophone (Saskia von Winterfeld), hand drum (Peter Beck) and polyphonic singing.
Composition and musical direction: Bernd Medek
